SUMMARY OF POSITION

The Preeclampsia Foundation is seeking a national Director of Development to lead and significantly grow the organization's fundraising. The Director of Development will guide and build philanthropic support for immediate growth and long-term sustainability by creating a strong relationship management process that engages the Board and executive team in cultivating significant partnerships. S/he will plan, manage and coordinate all fundraising activities, including setting goals, cultivating and soliciting major individual prospects, foundations and corporations, as well as stewarding donors, managing appeals and other development-related activities. Additionally, s/he is responsible for implementing a new planned giving campaign to increase Preeclampsia Foundation’s visibility and future sustainability. This role will focus primarily on increasing individual and corporate giving.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsible for strategic planning, direction, implementation, and evaluation of a comprehensive fundraising program for Preeclampsia Foundation. 80% of time will be spent on fundraising; 20% on management/supervisory activities.

  • ·         Create, execute and evaluate all fundraising strategies to ensure a diverse and sustainable revenue portfolio.
    • Develop and implement short- and long-term advancement plan to meet established development goals and objectives including:
      • §  Strategic initiatives for securing major gifts, endowments, defining stewardship and prospecting tactics and developing new approaches to supporting traditional advancement initiatives.
      • Managing staff including Events and Volunteers Coordinator, Donor Relations Coordinator  to support overall goals established in the advancement plan, providing regular performance reviews and appropriate recognition and supporting ongoing professional development opportunities.
    • Create, executive and evaluate the organization’s communications strategy in support of the mission.
    • Maintain a streamlined system for donor, foundation, corporate and potential donor records using in-depth understanding of databases, from conceptual to the tactical.

 

  • Engage board and committee members in strategic philanthropy
    • Utilize the Executive Director, Managing Director, board members and other key leaders in the fundraising process.
    • Act as a thought leader on fundraising to staff and board during programmatic and financial discussions
    • Work closely with Board members to providing training, tee up prospects, engagement opportunities, and a playbook, providing ongoing coaching for maximum success.
    • Stay abreast of philanthropic, economic, social and educational trends related to fundraising; ensure that board is informed of changes in legislation and other trends and initiatives that might impact giving.
    • Work closely with Board of Directors’ Fundraising Committee to secure active participation and input, and to achieve organization’s fund development goals and objectives

 

  • Supervise Donor Relations Coordinator to identify the donor pipeline and increase donor retention, with a priority on leadership donors, major donors, and loyal givers
    • Grow recurring giving (GEMs) program.
    • Working closely with the Promise Walk for Preeclampsia team, maximize and better leverage that event’s 9,000+ annual supporters.
    • Cultivate and manage a donor pipeline including both new and existing individual donors, and foundation and corporate supporters; effectively moving constituents through the engagement process; successfully solicit and close high dollar gifts for the organization, utilizing Executive Director or Board members, as needed.

 

  • Review and improve, as necessary, Foundation’s fundraising policies and protocols

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS

  • Commitment to Preeclampsia Foundation’s life-saving mission and vision.
  • Demonstrated ability to build a culture of philanthropy within an organization and to enthusiastically and successfully engage in in a wide range of philanthropic work including solicitation and stewardship of individual, foundation and corporate donors, potential donor cultivation and special events.
  • Record of success in meeting financial goals, analyzing and identifying problems, and formulating creative solutions.
  • Background or relevant work experience in the medical or science field strongly desired.
  • Demonstrative effectiveness working with boards, volunteers and a wide range of constituents.
  • Highly organized and efficient, capable of juggling multiple tasks and meeting deadlines; strong project management skills with ability to bring own projects to completion and collaborate with others.
  • Critical and strategic thinker; ability to present the Foundation’s story in a compelling manner that engages, inspires and generates enthusiasm among prospects.
  • Self-motivated with superior interpersonal, communication (written and spoken) and organizational skills with coworkers, board members, donors, prospects and high net worth individuals.
  • Proficiency in the use of computer for word processing, databases, spreadsheets, email, internet and CRM databases (especially CiviCRM).
  • Willingness and ability to travel nationally as needed.
  • Standard work week hours are expected, with evenings and weekends as needed for special events.

  • Salary is commensurate with experience.
  • Benefits package includes participation in 401(k), health insurance with 50% of single coverage paid by Foundation, holiday and personal leave, life insurance, professional education fund equal to 2% of salary.
